Yes. ACAHS is approved by DSD to teach the Personal Support Worker (PSW) programs.
Yes. ACAHS is registered under the Private Occupational & Training Act (POTA).
You will be prepared and eligible to work in any setting that employs PSW’s.
Your lab experience is embedded into the curriculum to synch with the theory. The lab is delivered as a simulation. You also have the option to come to Fredericton instead of or in addition to the virtual labs.
You have 2 options. First, you can select from 2 health care facilities in Frederiction that ACAHS is partnered with. Your second option is to choose from 1 of 3 facilities in your own community. If this is your preference, you must let the college know at the time of registration so that ACAHS is able to secure one of those facilities for your clinical placement experience.
Yes. ACAHS is registered under the Private Occupational Training Act and works closely with the Post-Secondary Training & Labour (PETL) Department. PETL's Labour Force Training program can provide up to 100% of program costs to qualified students. ACAHS is here to guide you through the process. If you are unemployed, funding is available through PETL's Training Skills & Development (TSD) program. They will also provide funding for child support, transportation, laptop etc. Call 1.506-453-2377 to set up an appointment with an Employment Counsellor. Funding is also available through traditional student loans (Student Financial Services) or we can work with you on payment plans.
The start of your semester will depend on your funding source. If you are being funded through the Labour Force Training program or paying out of pocket, you may start anytime and work at your own pace. If you are being funded through traditional student loans or the Training Skills & Development program, check with us on the next available start date. Typically there are 3 start dates. Fall, Winter and Spring.
The Basic PSW program is 52 weeks with the last 15 weeks being dedicated to obtaining 450 hours of clinical experience. The Advanced Standing PSW program is 52 weeks. There is no clinical or lab associated with this pathway.
Yes. Our tuition is approximately ½ of what our competitors are charging….. plus … you can continue to work while you study.
